9/11: A Day That Re-shaped America

Image
It was a day that started out like any day on September 11, 2001. Everyone went about their daily routine—waking up in the morning, getting dressed and ready for the day, leaving home to head for work, school, or to run errands, or to travel to places that people were destined to be. Nobody expected anything to go wrong that day—not even terribly wrong. But on that day, something went terribly wrong. At 8:46 a.m. in New York City, an airplane crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. At first, everyone thought it was an accident. But when another airplane hit the South Tower, we all knew it wasn’t an accident. It was an attack on America. It was an attack planned and intended to hurt America, to break America and to destroy America. Not only did tragedy & horror strike at the World Trade Center, but they also struck at the Pentagon and in a field at Pennsylvania. It was one of the greatest tragedies that America had suffered.         ...

A Purpose Within Us

Image
Why is there so much destruction in the world? Why do some people rejoice in violence, rejoice in seeing people get hurt and suffer their pains? What joy is there in such violence and pain?             Why does the world tell us lies to turn people against the good that exists in the world? Why does it tell us that being good is bad while being bad is good? Why does it put shame on those who stand out in doing good?             I believe I know the answer as a Christian. We live in a world where forces of good and evil exist, and we are faced as individuals with the decisions to either follow good or evil. We each have the power to decide our paths. I believe this to be true, even though some other people may not agree. I also believe that we are here to be tested to see if we are worthy to be with God again, to decide whether we want to follow His path o...

The Illustration of Love

Image
Completion Date: Nov/12/2017 As you can see, a man and a woman are making love and there's the sun shining behind them. The message behind this painting is, sex is a sacred and beautiful gift given by God because it's a physical expression of love between two people who accept each other not only for who they are, but also accept their physical features. If you look at the couple closely, how they embrace each other looks like a heart. A couple of more messages behind this painting include: (1) sex should only be done as an act of love within marriage, not out of lust or just for fun, and (2) we shouldn't be ashamed of having feelings or desires to have sex, including having it with someone we love because that's how we express love. It's just best that we do it at the right time and in the right place.

A Piece of the Puzzle

Image
Since last month was Autism Awareness month, I painted this picture to not only depict what things were like for me & how I felt as a child with high functioning autism growing up, but also to show that even though I'm different, I'm still a piece of the puzzle, as we all are. If you notice, one puzzle piece is blue while the rest of the pieces are all gray, but in different shades (I'm not referring to "Fifty Shades of Grey." I have neither seen the movie, nor do I wish to see it). Th e point is, in the painting, we're all different even though we look the same. We're all God's children. Growing up, I thought I was the only one who was different because I felt completely different from everybody, including my family. I was like a sore thumb sticking out of my family and my peer groups. But when I grew up and was old enough to understand, I realized we're all different. Even in my family, we're all different. But, it doesn't make us ...

Thoughts On My Graduation

Image
On Tuesday, July 18, 2017, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English – Creative Writing from Brigham Young University – Idaho. It is an accomplishment that I’m proud of. I’m proud to have achieved this after all the hard work, sacrifice, effort and passion that were put into it. Since I was a little girl, going to college and graduating from college has been one of my dreams. Not just because my sisters, my Mom and my Grandma have but because I’ve had such a strong desire to learn and be educated, especially about the things that I sought to learn about. It was not an easy thing for me to achieve, which is something that everyone who’s attended college is aware of. But for me personally, it was a huge challenge and definitely NOT an easy thing to accomplish. Not everyone I know is aware of this about me, but I’m ready to share it and hope that by doing so, others in similar circumstances will be encouraged to believe in themselves and their dreams. When I w...

Why Do I Believe In Compassion?

Image
Why do I believe in compassion? It’s a great form of love that binds the human spirits together once we, as individuals, learn to understand the other’s feelings and empathize with them.             My inspiration and decision to become a compassionate person came from my experiences with being treated poorly by others who saw me as an outcast and someone less important. It made me feel like I was not special. When I got older, I noticed other people, including people my age, who have felt like they were not important because of how they were treated or the issues they have struggled with. I have noticed people who were feeling left out. Because I experienced some of the similar hardships, I knew how they felt. Because I don’t like the way they and I were treated, I reach out to people out of kindness and try to help them feel like they are loved and know that they are important.      ...
