Testimony On The 94th Academy Awards Ceremony Incident

At the 94th Academy Awards Ceremony, Will Smith reacted violently to Chris Rock's joke about his wife, Jada, referencing her bald head to G.I. Jane. Everyone attending the ceremony in person was stunned. Recording live, this incident shocked millions of viewers. Many people were upset over Smith's reaction, some suing him for it and expressing disappointment in his actions. In contrast, others claimed he defended his wife's honor.
When I first read a headline saying, "Will Smith Slaps Chris Rock At Oscars," I was surprised because I'd never thought of Smith as a violent man, especially on live TV. But when I watched a video on Facebook about what happened, I was shocked and upset by the whole incident. I was even more upset that everyone was taking sides, most on Rock's side and some on Smith's. It was infuriating to me that most people blamed Smith for what happened but not Chris Rock because they were only focusing on the violence and anger from Smith. How come nobody called out on Rock for what he did before getting smacked in the face? Because he was only making a joke? Yes, that's what he was doing. But it was a cruel, insensitive joke. He commented on somebody because that person was bald. And he thought it would be funny to do that at an Awards Ceremony. Since when has it become okay to tease someone harshly for being bald?
I am not condoning what Smith did, but I am not condoning what Rock did because he was also irresponsible and immature. Whether or not he knew about Jada Pinkett-Smith's condition, Rock should NEVER have insulted her by pulling that joke on her. Instead, he made fun of her publicly and provoked a negative reaction from Smith. They BOTH made wrong choices. They're BOTH responsible for what happened. They BOTH need to be called out on their crap. They BOTH need to own it because BOTH men are guilty of the incident.
Afterward, Smith owned up to his mistakes by publicly apologizing to Rock for his negative reaction. But, sadly, he resigned from the Oscars, and they've banned him from all events for ten years as punishment. Ironically, I haven't read any news of Rock's outcome, how or if he got punished. As far as I've heard, he has neither faced the consequences nor done his part in making amends. So will he also take responsibility for his faults, or will he play the victim? The question remains.
