Sunflowers & Sunshine - October 14, 2017

On October 14, 2017, I successfully completed and sold my first watercolor painting to one of my sisters for $37 (going by my hourly rate), which she paid $60 in return. At her request, I did this painting as a reminder for her of our home and life in Mexico.

In this painting, there are six sunflowers that represent me and my family. What the story is within in the painting, we as a family & individuals have gone through a lot of trials, including the ones that we felt were the hardest for us, but through the support of each family member and those outside the family, we have been able to overcome our trials and grow from our experiences. 

Behind the sunflowers is the sun rising, which represents hope and renewal. Whenever things go wrong or things go the way we don't want them to, there is always another tomorrow, a hope for the future. The yellow grass and the dirt road the flowers stand in symbolize the trials and afflictions we have endured. The shadows of the sunflowers are our pasts that we learned to not let them define us, but refine us into the people we are today.

She Held Him In Her Arms

During a time of trouble in Jerusalem, News had reached to Mary Who would become a mother of a special child. Though she had known of this child’s coming, She had not expected it to happen that day. Nevertheless, she braced herself for what was yet to come. When she saw her Son, she shed her tears of love. When He was placed in her arms, she cleaned Him up. To keep Him warm, she wrapped her Son up in clothes & blankets. After she did, she laid Him to rest. And then she planted a kiss on Him. When He first spoke, she rose with joy. When He first walked, she embraced Him. When He was hungry, she made him food And He would eat with joy. When He was thirsty, she brought him water And He would drink with satisfaction. Then it came time for Him to do His Father’s work. When He cried, she wiped His tears. Then she whispered in His ear, “You are my little prince always.” After she said that, He went about His Father’s work.

Forgiveness: A City of True Happiness

Revenge is neither golden nor prosperous. It leads to nowhere except to the deepest depths of the darkness. The only places it leads you to are hate, sorrow, bitterness, contention and dread, all of which give nothing but pain. Forgiveness is a city of peace, renewal, joy and mercy, all of which provide true happiness. It is a landmark that stands out in the light to signal where you are so you can discover how far you've come in your journey to true healing. It never forgets or pardons the pain you've been through because of others or yourself. Rather, it takes in all of the broken pieces of your soul with compassion and care, and transforms them all into an improved molding of yourself that others need to see. Yourself included.
