Greater Love Hath No Man Than This

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends," ~ John 15:13 (New Testament, KJV)
September 10th, 2025 will always be remembered because it is the day America lost one of its greatest voices. Charlie Kirk was speaking publicly when he was shot in the neck by Tyler Robinson, a former Latter-day Saint from the Church of Jesus Christ who turned against his family, his values, and his faith. It was truly a horrific day at UVU when that happened there.

I can't understand how anyone grew up a Christian and then turned against their religion by turning into a ruthless killer, therefore ending in tragic results. What's worse about it is that he murdered an innocent man in front of his wife and children. And expressed no remorse over it.

I hadn't followed Charlie Kirk, but I've seen a few videos of him speaking on Facebook and other social media. Even though he came across as firm and brutally honest to others, I thought he was very profound in the things he said. Even if he said things I disagreed with or was in conflict with, I'd never dare to wish anything horrible to happen to him. Everyone has a right to their opinion regardless of their differences. And they do not deserve to be punished for it.

Charlie Kirk did not deserve to die because he was young, wise, and firm and true to his faith, including to his wife and children. But knowing the risks, he proceeded with his mission because he believed the goodness that would come from it would outweigh them. He died doing what he loved--fighting for America and for our one true God.

Despite his passing, at least his loved ones will continue his legacy, including his widow, Erika. And those who followed him. He died, but not his dream. Not his words. Not his legacy. Neither has his spirit died nor will it ever cease. He lives on in our hearts forever.

His courage inspires me more to be a better diplomat fighting for what's right, even if it comes with risks, too. I will "do what is right [and] let the consequence follow," (Do What Is Right, Hymn 237).
